Estonian weekly Eesti Ekspress published an article about the criminal proceedings of a top official which lasted four years but ended without any violation of state secrets being detected.
In the article, sworn attorney Steven-Hristo Evestus of Sirel & Partners Law Firm comments on the proceedings. Evestus, who previously worked in the prosecutor’s office, has an opinion that the question of whether the official’s actions somehow fall under the section or not was addressed for four years, although halfway through the proceedings it would have been reasonable to consider whether there was any prospect of establishing guilt at all. “If the answer is only an obligation to tolerate, then this is definitely not a good tone, because criminal proceedings should not burden anyone in such manner.”
